Frequently Asked Questions:
How long have you been in business?
We have been in the motorcycle industry for over 30 years but have been manufacturing the Pitbull Motorcycle lifts since 1989 (WOW--- 25 years) We have grown so much that in July 2007 , we moved into our NEWLY built 7,000 square foot manufacturing facility located in the beautiful state of TN.
Is the Pitbull Motorcycle Lifts and Pitbull Stands the same company?
No, we are only affiliated by name. Pitbull Stands makes front and rear stands for sport bikes.
Will the Pitbull Lift work with all Bikes?
The Pitbull Lift works on all Harley Davidson makes and models and 95% of Metric/Cruiser style bikes like Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Custom built bikes. It will NOT work on sport bikes/crotch rockets because they do not have a frame to pick up from.
Will the Pitbull Lift work on my GL1800?
Yes, and it has even been rated #1 by Wing World Magazine (largest Goldwing publication). The Goldwing 1800 requires a 1/4 inch shim unless you have added an aftermarket or Tulsa Belly pan. The shim is free with the purchase of a lift. If you have added a belly pan, you do not need the shim. The shim that we have for our lift is simply a 1\4" shim placed on the front lifting rail .The bottom of the 1800 engine has a slight ridge running across it and if you lift the bike without the shim, the bike will rock slightly to the right until it makes contact with the exhaust manifold pipe. You can, without any problems, lift your bike without the shim but will have that slight side to side rock in the bike on top of the lift.
Will the Pitbull Lift work with my trike?
Yes, our lifts will pick up a trike conversion kit as long as your center stand is still on your bike and you do not have fiberglass floorboards. The lifts are rated to hold 1450 pounds, so the weight of the bike is no problem. We do make adapters for the Trikes along with one for the Harley Davidson Tri Glide.
What is the difference between the Dyna lift and the Standard lift?
Before we came out with this new Dyna lift, there was no other way to pick up Dyna's (Wideglides, Superglides, Lowriders and Dyna Sports) made 1999 to present without the use of adapters because the tranny oil pan on these bikes hang down below the frame. Our new Dyna lift is pretty much exactly like our standard lift other than we made the lifting rails allot wider apart to compensate for the tranny oil pan, it actually spans the oil pan and the kickstand so nothing hangs down in the way of the Dyna series lift and you can simply roll the lift under and jack up the bike. You do not need to use any adapter on this lift. This lift will also work on ALL Harley Davidson makes and models including all customs / choppers and some metric bikes.
Will the Pitbull Lift work on my ATV?
The ATV's are extremely stable on the lift because our lifts are a lot wider than any other lift on the market.
Will the Pitbull Lift work on my Chopper that’s slammed?
The minimum height on the lift is 4 ½”. If your bike is slammed, you will have to put the back tire and/or kickstand on a 2x board so you will have the added clearance to get under the bike. Unfortunately that is what you have to do on most Customs and Choppers because they are so low to the ground. If we make the lift clearance any lower, it would not roll around anymore and would also jeopardize the strength and stability.
Can you convert a Standard Pitbull lift to an air lift?
No, There are too many differences between the manual unit and the air unit. The pyramid that the jack sits on is at a different degree angle. Also, on the air lift, the plate that the 12 ton air over hydraulic cylinder sits on is a thicker piece of steel and covers the whole pyramid so there would be no place to put the eye bolt that the manual lift needs to attach the foot pedal. The neck is also different along with the lifting rails. The cross bar on the " H" is welded higher than that of the manual lift to compensate for the 12 ton air cylinder. We would have to completely redesign both of our lifts to make it possible to convert one unit to another and by doing that we could sacrifice the strength and stability. We have been building the standard manual lifts now for 20 years. We added the air model about 12 years ago and to this point in time have never had any problems with either unit. ( Why fix it, if it is not broke).
How much PSI do you need for the air Lift?
The air unit works fine on most "home based" Compressors. The actual cfm on the cylinder in around 7 cfm and 90 psi however we use a 3-1\2 hp air compressor on our show trailer to demo these lift s all over the country and I think it only has about 3 - 3.5 cfm and it works great. We still recommend a compressor that will have 3 to 5+ hp for best performance.
Can I change my tires?
As far as changing tires, you can change the tires on most any motorcycle without the need for tie downs. But, you must always keep in mind that the bike is not tied down and you need to be very careful jerking etc... On the bike and you must also be experienced at making sure you know the bike is lifted in the right spot to give you the most stability. I always recommend to new customers to go ahead and tie the bike down when performing mechanical work like removing wheels etc.. Because it is always better to be safe than sorry.
Are all oil drains accessible when my bike is on the lift?
Yes. You can purchase a drain pan and it will lie across the H bars.
Will the lift work with a center stand or tru-trac?
Yes, the center stand and tru-trac does not interfere with the lift.
How does the turntable work and why do I need it?
Our lift and Turn Table will work on all Harley Davidson’s with no problems at all. The Turn Table was designed to fit on our Standard Pitbull lifts (NOT THE DYNA). All you do is remove the four pieces of angle that make up the table top of the lift and replace it with this turn table. Then you can manually spin the bike around on the lift. The turntable was designed for customers that have a limited amount of storage. Now you can jack the bike up on the lift and turn the bike so it is in line with the jack. It takes up less room in your garage. It is also a great accessory for cleaning your bike. With the turntable, you do not have to keep moving around the bike, you can now spin the bike when cleaning and adding accessories. The turntable ads a 1/4 inch to the platform of the lift making the total clearance of the Pitbull Lift with the turntable 4 3/4 inches.
What are the specs of the lift?
Weight of the lift is 117 pounds. Maximum lift height is 25 inches. . Clearance is 4 1/2 inches.
Can my bike be stored on the jack for the winter?
Yes, the safety stops will support the weight of the bike for extended periods, including seasonal storage.
Are there places to tie the motorcycle down once it is in the air?
Yes, there are tie down points in all four corners of the lift. We recommend using these tie down points for doing major mechanical work on your bike.

Is the hydraulic jack made in the USA?
Yes, We buy our Pro-Lift OMEGA jacks from SFA in Kansas City, Kansas. Even though they are made and assembled in Kansas City, Kansas, some of the parts do come from Taiwan. Over the past 22 years, we have searched for a jack for our lifts that are completely made in the USA and it is almost impossible. The ones that we did find were very cheaply made and expensive. We tried them for a few weeks and offered them to our customers for $50.00 more to cover our expenses. The customers that did buy them, complained about their performance and quality of them. The seals would blow out a lot and we had a lot of them returned due to them being defective. After dozens of complaints, we proceeded to go back to SFA who we found makes a good quality hydraulic jack that is worth the money. Even though some of the parts come from overseas, we very rarely have any returns or defective jacks sent back. Now we can pass the savings over to our customers by supplying them with a good quality lift for a reasonable price.
